One day I was sitting in my prayer room talking with God about how I felt about something. I can't even remember what I was probably rambling about at this point but I have the message that followed still written on my dry erase board. It says, "Instead of speaking how you feel, speak what God actually said, speak His Word. If you don't have a Word, then call on His name. There is power in the name of Jesus....to break every chain!" This hit me like a ton of bricks and my perspective and mood immediately shifted as if I was just realizing this for the first time. Understanding this freed me from the captivity of my thoughts and feelings within that moment about that specific issue. I literally snapped out of it. God doesn't mind when we vent but if we're being honest, we know sometimes we've talked to God about that same thing a million times and each time our feelings haven't changed. Let's grow from that and start to declare the Word of God over our situation. During that moment, if you can't think of a Word or there isn't something specific God spoke to you, just call on the name of Jesus. He will show up and comfort you and encourage you. He will provide you with whatever it is that you need.
A song that comes to mind when I think about this is Speak the Name by Koryn Hawthorne. The chorus says, "Speak the Name/The Name above all other names, Speak the Name/The Name the wind and waves obey/All of Heaven's coming down/Fill the earth with the sound, Of the Name/The Name of Jesus".
Another song that comes to mind that we're all familiar with is Break Every Chain by Tasha Cobbs-Leonard. Her famous lyrics say, "There is power in the name of Jesus to break every chain".
