Enjoy the Journey

I was completing Day 1 of a bible study on the Bible app titled, "Dangerous Prayers". The last scripture for Day 1 came from Psalm 34:17 which states in the KJV, "The righteous cry, and the Lord heareth, and delivereth them out of all their troubles". This scripture reminded me that God always promises to be with us. He promises to be there.

So many times when we are experiencing trials and tribulations in the midst of a promise, we get caught up in "when" the trial is going to be over or "how" the promise is going to come to pass. I have done this several times myself so much that I'm constantly training myself to stop asking those questions. I don't even bother because asking those questions only distracts me from God's plan and the perspective He wants me to see. There is something in the midst of the trial that we are supposed to learn from. There is always something to take away from a test...that's how we end up with a testimony. If we're too focused on the "when" and "how", then we will miss the purpose of the trial. I believe that this can sometimes delay our promise or deliverance if we're missing the reason we're in the trial in the first place. If you don't get it right the first time you may have to repeat it again or stay in it longer than anticipated. Another thing I am training myself to do is change my perspective. We all know that things are not always what they seem. I am a firm believer that everything happens for a reason. With this in mind, I try to take a look at the situation from a different angle and figure out what I may be missing. This is not just something I come up with own my own. It requires spending time with God in prayer, worship, reading the Word, and sometimes fasting. Through communication with Him, we can find insight within our trial and gain the understanding or learn the lesson that was meant for us within that season. Whatever you learn from that season may be needed for the next season and will most likely be used to encourage someone else. I am able to share and encourage my friends and family because of my experiences and my testimonies. It helps to know you are not the only one who is or has gone through a particular situation.

I wanted to encourage you to shift your focus and your perspective today in the midst of your trial. God may not have promised you "how" or "when" but you can hold on to the promise that when you cry, He hears you, and He will deliver you. There is so much beauty in this. God has promised to show up. He has promised to be there. How many times have you had a friend that was always there in the good times but as soon as the bad times came around, they were nowhere to be found? The bad times are when you need them the most right? Well no matter how bad things get, you can take comfort that God will never leave you nor forsake you (Hebrews 13:5). Sometimes it may not feel like He is there, but He is. Sometimes the storm gets dark and you can't see but He is with you. Anything that He is allowing you to go through, He has equipped you for. Every bible study, every Sunday service, each session of one-on-one time with God, and every encouraging message you watched on YouTube or social media has prepared you for what you're experiencing. If you're in a storm right now where you feel you can't see or hear God, I encourage you to go back to your notes. Go back to the last instruction God gave you. There is likely something there that was meant to prepare you for what you're experiencing now.

Our trials and tribulations are a part of our journey just as much as the good times. Although things may become rough, you can choose to enjoy the journey knowing God is with you.

Speak the Word

One day I was sitting in my prayer room talking with God about how I felt about something. I can't even remember what I was probably rambling about at this point but I have the message that followed still written on my dry erase board. It says, "Instead of speaking how you feel, speak what God actually said, speak His Word. If you don't have a Word, then call on His name. There is power in the name of Jesus....to break every chain!" This hit me like a ton of bricks and my perspective and mood immediately shifted as if I was just realizing this for the first time. Understanding this freed me from the captivity of my thoughts and feelings within that moment about that specific issue. I literally snapped out of it. God doesn't mind when we vent but if we're being honest, we know sometimes we've talked to God about that same thing a million times and each time our feelings haven't changed. Let's grow from that and start to declare the Word of God over ...
